Uploading assets
You add files to Assets from the Library. You can pick them from your computer or drag them onto the page, and a whole batch goes into the folder you choose in one step. Uploading needs the Editor role or higher.

Upload files
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Assets > Library.
- Optional: Open the folder you want to upload into. It's preselected as the destination.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Upload and pick one or more files.
- Drag the files from your computer anywhere onto the page. When Drop to upload appears, release them.
- The Upload queue opens with your files. Wait until every file shows Ready.
- Optional: In Destination folder, choose another folder, Library root, or create a new folder.
- Optional: To leave a file out, click the trash icon on its row.
- Click the upload button, which shows how many files are ready, such as Upload 12 assets.
A message confirms how many files were uploaded, and the new files appear in the destination folder.
Choose where the files go
The destination applies to the whole batch, so uploading a hundred photos stays a single decision. The queue starts from the folder that was open when you uploaded; from the Library root or the Trash, files go to the root.
Steps
- In the Upload queue, click the Destination folder field.
- Type in Search folders… to find a folder, or scroll the list. Subfolders are indented under their parent.
- Do one of the following:
- Click a folder, or Library root.
- To create a folder on the spot, click + Create folder…, type its name in New folder name, and confirm. The new folder is created at the root of the Library and selected.
Link products while uploading
When a file name contains a product code, Nucleo can link the file to that product as it's uploaded. It recognizes codes made of 2 to 5 letters, a hyphen and 2 to 5 letters or digits, optionally followed by a second segment, such as ABC-123 or ABC-TEE-WHT. A view at the end, such as ABC-123-side.jpg, is ignored.
| The queue shows | What it means |
|---|---|
SKU ABC-123 and Linked | A product with exactly that SKU is in your catalog. The file will be linked to it. Click Linked if you don't want the link. |
SKU ABC-123-WHT and Link SKU | Only a product of the same family was found. Nothing is linked unless you click Link SKU. |
| No SKU | No product code was recognized in the file name. You can link products later on the asset page. |
What happens after an upload
- Each file becomes an asset with its own page. Its title is the file name without the extension, with hyphens and underscores turned into spaces:
ss26-look_04.jpgbecomesss26 look 04. You can change it, and add a description and alt text, on the asset page. - The metadata embedded in the file, such as camera, lens, capture date, byline and copyright, is read and saved with the asset. See Rights and metadata.
- Every video gets a preview automatically: Nucleo takes its first frame and uses it as the poster in the grid, in the list and in the player on the asset page. There's nothing to prepare or upload.
- Renditions for every delivery preset are available straight away. See Delivery presets and renditions.
Considerations for uploading
- Every upload creates a new asset. Uploading the same file twice gives you two assets.
- Videos are stored and played as you upload them: Nucleo doesn't convert them to other formats or sizes. Image renditions of a video are made from its poster frame.
- Files uploaded to the Library count as editorial files. They aren't added to the photos your sales channels show for a product, even when they're linked to it.
- The photos your sales channels show for a product are managed in the product editor. See Adding and editing products. To send a marketplace the product photos it asks for, see Image packages.
