Delivery presets and renditions

Channels need the same image in different shapes: a small thumbnail, a web-optimized version, a square crop for social. In Assets you upload one master file and Nucleo produces each version, called a rendition, when someone asks for it. Nobody resizes files by hand.

Delivery presets are the named renditions your company uses. You manage them in Catalog > Settings > Assets > Delivery, and every asset lists them on its Delivery tab with a URL ready to copy. Changing presets needs the Owner or Admin role.

Get a rendition URL

Steps

  1. Open the asset page. See The asset page.
  2. Click the Delivery tab.
  3. Find the preset you need. Each row shows its name, its output, such as 320px · webp · q70, and its URL.
  4. Click the copy icon to copy the URL, or the open icon to open the rendition in a new tab.

Original master is always there and gives you the file exactly as it was uploaded. Thumbnail is also always there. The Delivery tab works for every role, Viewers included.

Make a custom rendition

When you need a size that no preset covers, build it on the spot. Nothing is saved as a preset and there's nothing to clean up.

Steps

  1. Open the asset page and click the Delivery tab.
  2. In the Custom row at the top, enter a Width in pixels.
  3. In Format, choose auto, webp, avif, jpg or png. With auto, the rendition keeps the format of the original.
  4. Optional: In Quality, enter a value from 1 to 100.
  5. Click Copy URL, or click the URL to open it.

Add a delivery preset

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Settings > Assets > Delivery.
  2. In Delivery presets, click Add preset.
  3. In Preset name, enter a name, such as Social square. Each name can be used only once.
  4. In Width (px), enter the width. Leave it empty for a full-resolution preset.
  5. Optional: In Height (px) · optional, enter a height to get a fixed shape.
  6. In Format, choose webp, avif, jpg or png.
  7. Optional: In Quality, enter a whole number from 1 to 100.
  8. If you entered both a width and a height, choose a Fit: cover or contain.
  9. Click Create preset.

A message confirms the new preset. It appears in the table and, straight away, on the Delivery tab of every asset.

Note
Choose a specific format for presets with a width. The Format list also offers auto, and the Fit list also offers fill and inside, but a preset that uses them isn't saved today: an error message appears and the table goes back to how it was.

Preset options

OptionWhat it does
Width (px)The width of the rendition, from 16 to 4,096 pixels. Empty means the original size.
Height (px) · optionalWith a width, gives the rendition a fixed shape, from 16 to 4,096 pixels. Without it, the height follows the proportions of the original.
Formatwebp and avif for light web images, jpg for compatibility, png when you need transparency.
QualityFrom 1 to 100. Higher means sharper and heavier. Empty uses a quality of 80.
Fit · coverFills the whole shape and crops what's outside it. The default.
Fit · containFits the whole image inside the shape, without cropping.

Edit or delete a preset

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Settings > Assets > Delivery.
  2. Find the preset in Delivery presets and do one of the following:
    1. To change it, click the pencil icon, edit the fields, and then click Save changes. The button turns on once something has changed.
    2. To delete it, click the trash icon, and then click Delete preset to confirm.
BadgeMeaning
Built-inThe preset can be edited but not deleted. Thumbnail is built in.
LockedThe preset can be neither edited nor deleted. Original master is locked: it's the master file itself.
Caution
Deleting a preset can't be undone. Anyone using that preset's URL, such as a website or a report, gets the original master instead.

Considerations for renditions

  • Presets are shared by the whole company: a change reaches every asset, and everyone who opens it, at once.
  • Image renditions of a video are made from its poster frame, the first frame of the video.
  • A rendition is made the first time it's requested and then kept, so the next request is instant.
  • Rendition URLs work as long as the file exists. If the file is permanently deleted from the Trash, its URLs stop working.
