Channels and connectors
Decide where each product goes, adapt content per channel, connect your platforms and bring in data from other systems.
Your catalog feeds more than one destination: a storefront, a marketplace, a feed. In Catalog each destination is a sales channel. A channel is created when you connect a platform in Settings > Connections, and from that moment you can prepare content, photos and publication for it.
Global is the master record of every product. A channel inherits everything from Global and stores only what you change for it, so a fix made on Global reaches every channel where the field was never overridden. You switch between Global and a channel with View as in the top bar.
Connectors are the other half. Some are sales channels or feeds, which create a channel; data sources, such as a PLM or an ERP, bring product data in through file imports. A source writes the fields it sends and the last write wins; every change is in the product's Activity.
