Channel overrides
Sometimes a channel needs a different title, a shorter description, another label for a value or its own photos. Instead of duplicating the product, you override those fields on the channel. Everything you don't change keeps following Global.
Overrides are edited in the product editor, after picking the channel in View as.
Override a field on a channel
Steps
- Open the product.
- In the top bar, click the channel chip of View as and pick the channel. The control turns dark to show you're not on Global.
- Edit the fields that must differ on this channel. Fields you haven't overridden show the Global value as a placeholder.
- Click Save in the Unsaved changes bar.
Only the fields you changed are stored for the channel. To make a field follow Global again, clear it and save.
Learn what can differ per channel
| Field | Per channel? |
|---|---|
| Title and Description | Yes. |
| System attributes such as Brand | Yes. |
| Attribute values in the Attributes tab | Yes. The attribute set itself stays shared. |
| HS Code and Country of origin | Yes. |
| Photos | Yes: the channel has its own photos plus the ones shared by every channel. |
| SKU, attribute set, variants and categories | No. They're shared by every channel and read-only in a channel view. |
| Publication status | Shown per channel, changed on Global. |
| Translations of title, description and translatable attributes | Yes, in every language: choose the channel and the language. |
| SEO (meta title, meta description, handle) | Yes, in every language, the default one included. |
Pull photos from another channel
Steps
- Open the product in the view of the channel that needs the photos.
- In Media, on the Info tab, click Pull from channel and pick the channel to copy from.
Only photos the channel doesn't have yet are copied. If there's nothing new, Nucleo tells you No new images to copy — this channel is already up to date.
Override categories per channel
Categories work the same way: in Catalog > Catalog > Categories, pick a channel in View as, change the fields that must differ, and click Save override. Reset to Global drops the override. See Adapt a category per channel or language.
Considerations for channel overrides
- Overrides are sparse by design: a Global fix propagates to every channel where the field was never overridden.
- An external data source writes only on the master record; channel versions are always Nucleo's.
- Search > Facets and the Merchandising pages can also differ per channel through View as. See Facets and Sorting categories.
