Setting up search facets

Facets are the filters shown next to search results, such as color, size or price. Catalog > Search > Facets decides which ones appear, in which order, and how each one looks. What you set here is what Nucleo's search returns alongside its results, as you can see in the facets of the Playground.

Every filterable attribute of your product model is listed. Changes save as you make them: the page shows Saving… while it writes.

Show or hide a facet

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Search > Facets.
  2. Find the facet in the list.
  3. Turn Shown on to show it, or off to hide it.

A hidden facet is no longer calculated by the search at all. If you hide every facet, the preview says No facet shown — shoppers can't refine.

Change the order of facets

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Search > Facets.
  2. Drag a facet by the handle on the left of its row to a new position. You can also focus the handle and move it with the arrow keys.

The order from top to bottom is the order shoppers see.

Change how a facet looks

Each row has these settings. They're available only while the facet is shown.

SettingOptionsWhat it does
DisplayChecklist, Color swatches, Size grid, Range, ToggleHow the values are drawn. Only the forms that suit the attribute's type are offered; if there's only one, it's shown as text.
Values6, 8, 12, 24, 50How many values the facet shows at most.
Sort valuesCatalog order, By result count, AlphabeticalThe order of the values inside the facet.
CollapsedOn or offWhether the facet starts closed.
CountsOn or offWhether each value shows how many results it has. Not available for Range.

Under each facet name you see its attribute code (or core for built-in facets such as category or price) and its type.

Reset a facet to its default

A facet you've changed shows a Custom badge. Its default comes from the attribute's type: for example a size grid shows 24 values in catalog order, while a checklist shows 12 values sorted by result count, with counts.

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Search > Facets.
  2. On the facet with the Custom badge, click the reset button at the end of the row.

Set facets for one sales channel

Facets can differ from one sales channel to another. A channel uses the general configuration until you change something for it.

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Search > Facets.
  2. In the top bar, choose the channel in View as. See Viewing as a channel or language.
  3. Change a facet. The message This channel uses the general configuration is replaced by This channel has its own facets.

To drop the channel's own setup, click Go back to the general one, and then click Go back to the general one again to confirm. The channel's own configuration is deleted and can't be recovered.

Preview the facets

The Storefront preview on the right shows the facets as a shopper would see them, with your catalog's own values, in the order and form you chose. To preview another language, select it in the language selector of the preview.

Considerations for facets

  • Only attributes marked filterable can be facets. To add one, make the attribute filterable in Attributes, or from Enrichment. A new facet appears here switched off.
  • A facet with no values on your catalog yet shows No value in this catalog yet. in the preview.
  • Facets need a connected store. Without one, the page says so instead of listing them.
  • You need the Owner, Admin or Editor role to change facets.
