Data from other systems

When product data comes from another system, such as a PLM or an ERP, that system writes the fields it sends, and the last write wins. There are no rules per field and no field is locked: anyone who can edit a product in Nucleo can change a field the source wrote, and the source overwrites it at its next sync.

Every change, from a person, Atomo, an import or a source, appears in the product's Activity with its author, and you can restore an earlier value from there. See Product history.

Learn what a data source writes

  • Every field the source sends is written, even if it was edited in Nucleo.
  • An empty value from the source never clears a field.
  • A value that only echoes what Nucleo sent to that system is skipped, so two systems don't keep overwriting each other.
  • Fields the catalog doesn't know, such as a new attribute, are not created: they're listed on the source's connection.

See what a source sent

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Settings, and then click Connections.
  2. Under Connected, click the data source, and then click the Received data tab.
  3. For each field group, read how many values the source sent and when, and when the group was last edited in Nucleo.
Note
Fields the source sends but the catalog doesn't know are listed under Fields the catalog doesn't know: create the attribute to receive them, or click Ignore.

Import a file from a data source

Data from a PLM or an ERP arrives through Imports. When you import a product file, answer Where does this file come from? with the source instead of Manual import (you). The changes are then recorded as coming from that source.

Click Preview before running: nothing is written, and Nucleo tells you how many products are new or would change, and how many values would be written, overwritten or skipped as an echo of what Nucleo sent. See Importing data.

Considerations for data from other systems

  • A manual import also writes the fields in the file; it isn't linked to any source.
  • The data source's connection shows how many products come from it.
  • A Shopify sales channel has the same Received data tab.
  • If a system should never change the catalog, don't give it write access: for the Catalog API, use a read-only key.
