Scenarios

Scenarios is a simulator. It starts from the real average of your costs and revenue over the last months, the baseline, and projects it forward. You then add assumptions, such as cutting a cost from next month, losing a client, winning a deal or hiring someone, and see at once what changes in your result and your cash.

You find it under Brain > Finance > Scenarios, or from Open the simulator in Costs. Saved scenarios are shared with everyone who can see Finance; saving them needs the Manage finance permission.

Set the baseline

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Brain > Finance > Scenarios.
  2. In Baseline up to, check the last month of real data. It starts on the last closed month.
  3. In Average over, choose 3, 6, 12 or 24 months, and then click Recalculate baseline.
  4. In Horizon, choose how far ahead to project: 6, 12, 15, 18 or 24 months.
  5. Optional: in Opening cash (€), enter the cash you start from, or click the line under it to use the cash from Banks.

Amounts are net of VAT, by the date of each document. The note under the controls says which months the baseline averages and when the projection starts.

Add assumptions

Assumptions has four tabs:

TabWhat you can do
CostsFor each cost category and supplier, keep it Unchanged, Remove it, Reduce by % or Set €/month, from the month you choose. Departments, below, apply on top of these changes.
ClientsRemove or reduce what a client brings in from a given month, for example when a contract ends.
New revenuePick one of your open deals in Add an open deal, or click New revenue for a prospect. Set whether it's Monthly or One-off, the amount, the months, the start month and the probability. Turn on Weight by probability to count each revenue at its probability.
Hires and new costsClick Hire to add a person, starting from your average cost per person, or New cost for anything else, with the monthly amount, the start month and, optionally, how many months it lasts.

Read the result

FigureWhat it shows
Average monthly costs (baseline)Your real monthly costs, with your average revenue under it.
Monthly saving at full effectHow much your assumptions save each month once they all apply, and in the first 12 months.
Result, first 12 monthsRevenue minus costs over the next 12 months, and the difference with the baseline.
Cash at end of horizonWith an opening cash, the cash left at the end, and the month it would go negative, if it does. Without it, Monthly costs at end of horizon.

History and projection draws the real months as bars and the baseline and the scenario as lines, with the cash when you entered it. Month by month gives the same figures in a table: revenue, costs, what is new in each, the saving, the result and the cash.

Save, reopen or delete a scenario

Steps

  1. In Name, give the scenario a name.
  2. Click Save. To keep the original and save your changes apart, click Save as new instead.
  • To reopen a scenario, pick it in Scenario. New scenario (not saved) starts from a blank one.
  • Clear assumptions removes every assumption and leaves the baseline.
  • Delete removes the saved scenario.
