Client status and relationship tags
Relationship tags tell you what a company is to you. Most of them, such as Supplier, Partner, Competitor or Investor, are set by you. The three that describe your sales funnel, Prospect, Client and Inactive client, follow your deals and contracts on their own, so the Prospects and Clients lists under Brain > Companies always reflect reality.
How client status changes
| When this happens | The company becomes |
|---|---|
| You open a deal with the company, and it isn't already a Client. | Prospect |
| You open a deal with an Inactive client. | Prospect again: the Inactive client tag is removed. |
| A contract with the company is signed. | Client: the Prospect and Inactive client tags are removed. |
| The company has an active signed contract, checked every night. | Client |
| The company no longer has any active contract, checked every night. | Inactive client |
A new deal with an existing Client doesn't change anything: it's an upsell, not a new prospect.
What doesn't make a company a client
- Contracts with companies tagged Supplier, Partner, Competitor or Investor never turn them into Clients.
- NDAs, supplier, partner, financing and fleet contracts say nothing about a client relationship and are ignored by the nightly check.
- Revenue alone doesn't count: only an active signed contract makes a Client.
What a contract withdrawal does
When you record the withdrawal of a contract, the contract ends on its effective date. From that day, if the company has no other active signed contract, it's marked as not active, and its projects are completed and locked. The nightly check then moves it to Inactive client.
Considerations for client status
- Tags you set by hand on a company can be changed again by the next deal, the next signed contract or the nightly check.
- Signing a contract linked to a deal also moves the deal to Won. See Deals and pipeline.
- Signed contracts ending within 60 days appear among the deadlines on the Home page.
