Testing recommendations in the Playground

The Recommendations Playground shows what your widgets would put next to a product, and why. Pick a product, optionally a shopper and a language, and switch between the two logics.

You find it in Catalog > Recommendations > Playground.

Try recommendations on a product

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Recommendations > Playground.
  2. In the bar, type a product name or SKU and pick the product.
  3. Optional: choose a shopper in the bar to see the recommendations as they would, and choose the language in the pill on the right.
  4. At the top right of Results, choose Comparison or Correlation.

To pick another product, clear the reference product with the X in the bar.

Explore comparison alternatives

With Comparison, the panel shows the alternatives that change one thing and keep the rest.

  • Click a change chip, such as another color or a cheaper price, to ask for it. Each chip is a constraint, not a preference.
  • Use Any size to narrow to one size, and Max price to set a price limit.
  • Each alternative shows what changes, what stays the same and what also differs.
  • Click Use as reference on an alternative to start again from it.

If nothing changes only what you asked, the panel says so and offers chips such as Drop … or Start over from this product, each with the number of products it would bring back.

Explore correlation complements

With Correlation, the panel shows the products that go with the reference, from other categories. It says whether they come from what people Bought together or from a Category rule, and lets you set a Target size and a Max price.

Read the explanation

Above the results, the explanation names the widget that answered, how many items it returned and, with a shopper, their orders and size. Then it lists the steps behind the result. The steps differ between the two logics; the main ones are:

StepWhat it says
Rule that answeredThe widget that covered this product (category, filter, chosen products or whole catalog), or the catalog default when none does. It also says when hand-picked products on the product replace the widget.
Who wears itAlternatives keep the audience of the reference: a women's item isn't an alternative to a men's.
Same kind of productAlternatives stay in the same kind of product.
Buyable onlyOut-of-stock items never enter.
The shopper's sizeWhether the results were narrowed to the size the shopper keeps.
What you asked to changeThe chips you selected.
OrderingHow the results are sorted.
From past ordersFor complements, how many pairings come from what people bought together, and how many from this shopper's own purchases.
History never removesNothing is left out because the shopper already owns it.

Badges on the results flag products Pinned by the merchant, Already bought by the shopper, with Few sizes left, or Out of stock.

Considerations for the Recommendations Playground

  • The Playground uses your saved widgets. To try unsaved rules, use the preview in the widget itself. See Preview a widget.
  • Choosing a shopper reads their purchase history and requires the Owner, Admin or Editor role.
  • You can see the same alternatives from a search result: in the search Playground, open a product and click the Recommendations tab.
