Languages and translations

Your catalog has one default language, which is the master copy, and as many other languages as you need. There's no separate translations screen: you pick a language in View as and the product or category shows that language, with the master copy as a placeholder until you translate.

Languages are managed in Catalog > Settings > Catalog data > Localization, together with the currencies your price lists use.

Add a language

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Settings > Catalog data, and then click the Localization tab.
  2. Under Locales, click Add language.
  3. Search the list with Search locales… and pick the language.

The language is added at once and appears in the View as control of every Catalog page. The first language you add becomes the default.

Add a regional variant

A regional variant, such as French for Monaco (fr-MC), falls back to its base language for anything you don't translate specifically for it.

Steps

  1. Under Locales, click Add regional variant.
  2. Under Base language, pick the language.
  3. Under Region, search and pick the country.
  4. Click Add variant.

Change the default language

Under Locales, select the radio button in the Default column of the language. The change applies at once. Only one language can be the default; it's the master copy every translation starts from.

Remove a language

Steps

  1. Under Locales, click the remove icon of the language.
  2. Confirm with Remove language.
Note
The default language can't be removed: set another language as default first. Products translated in the language must be cleared first, and a language used by a market can't be removed until the market uses another one.

Translate a product

Steps

  1. Open the product.
  2. In the top bar, click the language chip of View as and pick the language.
  3. Edit the Title and the Description. The default-language text shows as a placeholder while a field is empty.
  4. Click Save in the Unsaved changes bar.

In a language view, the fields that aren't translated per product, such as the SKU, the attributes and the variants, show their default-language values and can't be changed there. Attribute values are translated once for the whole catalog, in each attribute's Values grid. See Manage an attribute's values.

Tip
Atomo can draft a translation for you. Open Atomo on the product and ask, for example, Translate the description into French.

Translate a category

In Catalog > Catalog > Categories, pick the language in View as, click the category, and translate its name, description, meta title and meta description. Click Save translation in the Unsaved changes bar.

Find products that aren't translated

Steps

  1. In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Catalog > Products.
  2. Add the Translation filter and pick the language.
  3. Switch the filter to Is not to see the products missing it.

Load translations in bulk

To translate many products or attribute values at once, use a Translations import: Product translations loads titles and descriptions per language, matched by SKU; Attribute translations loads value labels per language. See Importing data.
