Merchandising strategies
When the same weights start repeating across categories, a strategy saves you from setting them one by one. A strategy is a reusable sorting recipe: a base order, weights and guardrails. Categories attached to it follow its updates.
You manage strategies in Catalog > Merchandising > Strategies. You need the Owner, Admin or Editor role to create, edit or apply them, and the Owner or Admin role to delete them.
Create a strategy
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Merchandising > Strategies.
- Click New strategy.
- In Name, type a name, such as
New season push. - In Base order, choose how products are ordered. The options are the same as in the workbench: see Choose the rules.
- If you chose Custom weights, set each weight from 0 to 100. At least one weight must be above zero.
- Turn on the guardrails you want.
- Click Create.
Read a strategy
Each strategy card shows its base order, how many categories use it, its weights, and its guardrails: those turned on are highlighted.
Apply a strategy to categories
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Merchandising > Strategies.
- On the strategy, click Apply to categories.
- Select the categories. Use Filter categories… to find them; each shows its path and number of products.
- Click Apply to _n_ categories.
The strategy is written to each category without publishing it: in Sorting they show Unpublished changes. Open each category, review the order and publish it.
Edit a strategy
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Merchandising > Strategies.
- On the strategy, click Edit.
- Change the name, base order, weights or guardrails.
- Click Save.
Categories attached to the strategy follow it: their next publish uses the new rules. A message says how many categories follow it.
Detach a category from a strategy
Steps
- Open the category in the workbench.
- Change any rule, or choose Local rules in Strategy.
- Publish the category.
The category keeps the rules as its own and stops following the strategy's updates.
Delete a strategy
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Merchandising > Strategies.
- On the strategy, click the trash icon. The confirmation says how many categories use it.
- Click Delete strategy to confirm.
Considerations for strategies
- A strategy holds rules only. Pins, local or master, stay with each category.
- Applying a strategy never publishes on its own: every category stays unpublished until you publish it.
- Published orders don't reach your Shopify storefront today.
