Master pins
A master pin holds a product at the same position wherever it appears, such as a hero product at the top of every category that contains it. You set it once, from the product or from the workbench, instead of pinning it category by category.
All master pins are listed under Pinned in every category in Catalog > Merchandising > Global rules. You need the Owner, Admin or Editor role to create or remove them.
Make a product a master pin
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Catalog > Products and open the product.
- Click the Categories tab.
- In the Position in categories card, click Make master pin. The product is pinned at position 1 in every category that contains it.
- Optional: in Position, type another position.
- Optional: under Where it holds its place, clear Every category containing this product and select only the categories you want.
- If you changed the position or the categories, click Update.
The card then shows Master pin, its position, how many categories it holds in, and in how many it's switched off.
Read the master pins list
In Catalog > Merchandising > Global rules, Pinned in every category lists each master pin with the product and its SKU, its position (pos. 1), how many categories it covers, and in how many it's switched off.
Switch off a master pin in one category
Steps
- Open the category in the workbench from Sorting.
- On the tile of the master-pinned product, open More actions.
- Click Suppress master here.
- Publish the category.
The product follows this category's rules again. The master pin stays active in every other category.
Remove a master pin
Steps
- In Nucleo, go to Catalog > Merchandising > Global rules.
- On the product's row, click the trash icon.
- Click Remove master pin to confirm.
The product loses its fixed position in every category, not only one, and goes back to each category's rules. You can also click Remove in the product's Position in categories card, where a message lets you Undo for a few seconds, or the star icon on its tile in the workbench (Remove master pin).
Considerations for master pins
- Inside a category, a local pin always wins over a master pin: a decision made looking at that category beats one made once for all.
- Every category containing this product also covers categories the product joins later. A list of chosen categories doesn't grow on its own.
- The Position in categories card of a product also lists, under Pinned in, the categories where it has a local pin. Click one to open it in the workbench.
- Guardrails don't move master-pinned products, even when out of stock, unless the master pin is suppressed in that category.
- Undo isn't offered for a master pin that was switched off in some categories: recreating it would lose those exceptions.
