The Nucleo shell

The shell is the frame around every page in Nucleo. It's the same in all four modules: the sidebar on the left, the page in the middle and the Atomo button in the bottom-right corner. There's no bar across the top of the page on a computer screen: the search, your account and the bell all live in the sidebar.

Use the sidebar

From top to bottom, the sidebar contains:

PartWhat it does
Company switcherShows the selected company. With more than one company, click it to switch. See Switching companies and modules.
Module switcherShows the current module. Click it to open another module.
SearchFinds records across Nucleo. See Search Nucleo.
SectionsThe areas of the module, grouped under headings. For example, Catalog has Products, Assets and Feeds. Sections you don't have permission to see are hidden.
SettingsAt the bottom: opens the Settings panel, with your company's pages at the top and the settings of the module you're in below. See Settings.
Collapse iconNext to Settings: shrinks the sidebar to icons, or expands it again.
Your nameOpens your account menu: Profile, the help links and Log out. See Use your account menu and the bell.
BellNext to your name: your notifications. See Notifications.

Collapse or expand the sidebar

Steps

  1. At the bottom of the sidebar, click the panel icon to the right of Settings (Collapse sidebar).
  2. To expand the sidebar again, click the same icon (Expand sidebar), or click the module icon at the top.
  • When the sidebar is collapsed, hover over an icon to see its name. For an entry with sub-entries, hovering opens a small panel from which you can open any of them.
  • Nucleo remembers your choice in each browser. The first time you open Nucleo on a screen narrower than 1,280 pixels, the sidebar starts collapsed.
  • When you open Settings, the sidebar shrinks to icons by itself to make room for the Settings panel, and goes back to how it was when you leave.
  • On screens narrower than 1,024 pixels, such as a tablet in portrait, the sidebar is hidden. A thin bar at the top of the page holds the menu icon and the search: click the menu icon to open the sidebar. It closes by itself when you open a page.

Use your account menu and the bell

Your name sits at the bottom of the sidebar, with your company and your role under it. Click it to open your account menu:

OptionWhat it does
ProfileYour name, avatar, language, theme and notification preferences. See Your account.
Company settingsOnly for company administrators: opens the people of your company in Settings. See Settings.
Documentation, Changelog, StatusThe help links. See Getting help.
Log outSigns you out of every module and company. See Signing in and out.

The bell to the right of your name opens your notifications. A badge on it shows how many you haven't read. See Notifications.

Pages that change by channel, such as a product in Catalog, show a small floating bar at the bottom center of the page with View as: it shows the content as a specific channel and language would. See Viewing as a channel or language. Companies that belong to a group in Brain can also find a Group switch there, which combines the group's companies in Brain's views.

Search Nucleo

The search finds records in Brain: leads, contacts, companies, deals, quotes, contracts and projects. It matches names, email addresses, phone numbers, VAT numbers, web domains, document numbers and, when you type a number, amounts.

Steps

  1. Click Search in the sidebar, below the module switcher, or press Cmd+K on a Mac (Ctrl+K on Windows) from any page. The box Ask Nucleo everything… opens.
  2. Type at least 2 characters. Results appear as you type, grouped by type of record.
  3. Click a result to open it. To close the search without choosing, press Esc or click the X.
  • Each group shows up to 6 results. If what you need isn't there, add more words to the search.
  • You only see the types of record you have permission to view in Brain. If your company doesn't have Brain, the search doesn't return results.
  • The suggestions listed under the box are examples. Pressing Enter doesn't send your text anywhere: to ask a question in your own words, open Atomo instead.

Work with page headers and saving

Every page has a header with its title and the actions for that page. The title is the name of the entry you clicked in the sidebar or in Settings. The actions always follow the same order, so you know where to look:

  • On the left of the actions, the avatars of colleagues who have the same page open. See See who else is on a page.
  • Every secondary action, such as duplicating, exporting or deleting, is in the More actions menu, even when there's only one. Destructive actions are at the bottom of the menu, in red, and ask for confirmation.
  • The main action of a page without a form sits on the right, for example Add product or Add person.
  • On a product, the arrows to move to the previous or next product are the last thing on the right.

Save your changes

Pages that are forms don't have a save button in the header. As soon as you change something, an Unsaved changes bar appears at the bottom center of the page with Save and, on most pages, Discard. It can't be closed by hand: it goes away when there's nothing left to save.

Steps

  1. Make your changes on the page. The Unsaved changes bar appears.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. Click Save, or press Cmd+S on a Mac (Ctrl+S on Windows).
    2. Click Discard to go back to the saved version.
  • While Nucleo saves, both buttons are greyed out. If the save fails, an error message appears and the buttons work again, so you can correct and retry.
  • If a required field is empty, the bar doesn't offer Save until you fill it in.
  • Some pages offer more ways to save from the arrow next to Save, for example saving a product as a new version.
  • Cmd+S (Ctrl+S) only saves when the bar is showing, and not while a dialog is open.

Leave a page with unsaved changes

If you click a link, use the browser's back button or let Atomo open another page while the Unsaved changes bar is showing, you stay on the page and the bar shakes: save or discard first. There's no pop-up to dismiss.

  • Closing or reloading the browser tab with unsaved changes asks for confirmation in the browser's own dialog.
  • On the few forms that don't use the bar, such as an API key you've typed but not saved yet, Nucleo asks Leave without saving?. Click Leave page to lose your changes, or cancel to stay.

Confirmations and errors appear as short messages at the bottom center of the screen. They close by themselves, or you can close them with the X.

See who else is on a page

On pages with a form, such as a product or a settings page, Nucleo shows the avatars of the colleagues who have the same page open, in the header to the left of More actions. It helps two people avoid editing the same record without knowing it.

  • Up to 3 avatars are shown; the others are counted as + followed by a number. Hover over an avatar to see the name and Viewing this page or Has unsaved changes.
  • A yellow dot on an avatar means that person has unsaved changes on the page.
  • If you start editing while a colleague already has unsaved changes on the same page, a second message sits behind your Unsaved changes bar, for example Anna is also editing this page. Hover over the bar to read it: whoever saves last overwrites the other's changes, so agree on who saves first.
  • Only people working on the same company are shown. A colleague who switches to another browser tab disappears from the page, unless they have unsaved changes; one who closes the browser disappears within a minute.

Read the browser tab title

The title of each browser tab goes from the general to the specific: the company, the sidebar entry, the record or tab you're on, then the module.

Where you areBrowser tab title
A list<company> · Products · Nucleo Catalog
A record<company> · Products · <product name> · Nucleo Catalog
A page with tabs<company> · <page> · <tab> · Nucleo <module>
Settings<company> · Users · Nucleo Catalog, with the module you entered Settings from
Tip
With many tabs open, the company name at the start tells you at a glance which company each tab is working on.

Notices you may see

Nucleo was updatedA new version of Nucleo has been released while you were working. Nucleo checks every minute.Click Reload when convenient. If you have a form open, save it first, then reload.
Read-only: your role in this module is Viewer.Shown at the top of Catalog, Commerce or Intelligence when your role there is Viewer. You can browse everything, but actions that change data aren't offered.Ask an administrator of your company for a different role. See Roles and permissions.
Company not availableThe address points to a company code that doesn't exist, or to a company you don't have access to.Click the button to go back to your current company, or ask the person who sent you the link to check it.
Note
In Brain, while your company's workspace setup isn't complete, the sidebar shows only Workspace setup and the rest of the shell is hidden. See Setting up your workspace.

Considerations for the shell

  • Records have their own address, which includes the company code. To show a colleague what you're looking at, copy the URL from your browser: they'll see it with their own permissions.
  • When you open Atomo, the page narrows to make room for the panel. Tables and grids adapt to the space left.
  • The accent color of the shell is always Nucleo lime. Each module has its own icon color, which helps you tell modules apart in the switcher.
